Trail information
Gladenkaya stands in the Western Sayan, forty kilometres from Sayanogorsk, and was built alongside the Sayano-Shushenskaya dam as a national team base. The vertical is enormous, nine hundred metres, among the largest in Russia, though there are only three and a half kilometres of groomed runs. The upper mountain is open and treeless, and the snow settles early. The area operates irregularly and as means allow, but for anyone who gets there it remains one of the most serious hills in Siberia.

What visitors say about the resort
The length of the descent is what wins people over: the main run stretches for kilometres with a serious vertical, the slopes are certified to FIS standards and national races are held here. Skiing works out cheap, since you pay for one ride up and then descend for a long time. Snow lies for the best part of nine months, and there are freeride zones, a halfpipe, cross-country tracks, tubing and a skating rink. The Sayan scenery and the friendly staff in the rental shop, the cafes and the hotel get named too.
The upper run takes the criticism: reviews describe rocks sticking out of the surface under a thin cover of snow, so that dodging one puts you onto the next and ruins your gear. The hotel gets its share as well - a pool that was out of service, interiors that have not been refreshed in many years, and staff nobody would call quick.
