Ice Mountain is an indoor ski hall at Comines in Belgium, near the French border. The main slope is 210 metres long and thirty wide, with a second smaller one, served by three rope tows and a carpet. It works year-round on real snow, made inside the hall. People come mostly to learn and to prepare for an Alpine holiday: Belgium has nothing resembling real mountains to offer.

The praise is for real snow available all year round: visitors find the surface decent for man-made snow and free of icy patches, and a helmet comes free with the rental. Free parking, an easy drive from Brussels and Lille, qualified instructors and two restaurants, one done up as an Alpine chalet, all get good words. Many come simply to get their legs back before a trip to the mountains.
Organisation and the state of the slope at busy times draw criticism. Reviewers complain that the snow by the drag lift and on the conveyor belt goes ungroomed for days, and that barriers are left standing in the middle of the run. Beginners and confident skiers share one lane, which people call dangerous when the hall fills up. A recurring gripe is the mismatch between the entrance scanner and the internal clock, which produces surcharges for extra minutes.
