A beautiful finish

The 2025/26 Alpine Ski World Cup is drawing to a close, and today the women will start the final giant slalom. The winner of the Crystal Globe in this discipline is already known - after the race in Åre, Austria's Julia Scheib secured the globe early.

Julia made a brilliant start to the season, winning the race in Sölden at the end of October. In total, she won five races and finished second twice more. She did not reach the podium at the Milan-Cortina Olympics, finishing fifth. But her victory at the Swedish race allowed the Austrian to make up for the lack of an Olympic medal with a well-deserved giant slalom World Cup title.

Camille Rast may not hold on to second place in the giant slalom standings today. The Swiss skier's injured thigh has started hurting more again; yesterday, she started the slalom on painkillers and was unable to produce the result she wanted. However, she remains positive and is ready to fight for a high finish today. Sweden's Sara Hector and Mikaela Shiffrin could also challenge the leaders.

Mikaela secured another slalom victory yesterday and has virtually guaranteed herself the overall World Cup title, although the contest is still open. After finishing third yesterday, Emma Aicher trails Mikaela Shiffrin by 85 points in the race for the Big Crystal Globe.

In the previous giant slalom in Åre, the German posted the fourth-fastest time - her best result of the season; giant slalom is her weaker discipline.

We should not forget Alice Robinson either - although the New Zealand skier has had a fairly nervy season, she is sixth in the giant slalom standings.
