Alexander Khoroshilov Ends Career with Victory in Kirovsk

Alexander Khoroshilov ended his professional career with a victory. Today, April 11, the 42-year-old Russian Alpine skier won the PRO Series competition in Kirovsk, beating all his rivals by a wide margin. The day before, he won the final Russian Cup slalom.

The final race of the national Cup took place on April 10. Alexander Khoroshilov finished 1.63 seconds ahead of Semyon Efimov. The scenario was similar in today's professional competition: after the first run, Alexander led the standings and had a 1.43-second advantage over Semyon Efimov.

After two runs, the Russian athlete retained the lead and ended the season with a victory. His margin over the nearest rival was 1.44 seconds.

After finishing in Kirovsk, Alexander thanked his family - his wife Maria, daughters Anna and Darya, his parents, coaches and team. He expressed special gratitude to the Russian Alpine Ski Federation and everyone who helped make his sporting dreams a reality.

Khoroshilov said that he once dreamed of winning the World Cup, although for a long time this goal seemed unattainable. He recalled competing in Schladming in 2015, when he won the first run and, as the last athlete remaining on the start list, said to his serviceman Vasily: “Look where we have ended up!”

After this success, Alexander went on to win a World Cup event in Austria and then reached the podium several more times. The Alpine skier gave special thanks to his coaches, serviceman Jani Hladnik, who worked with him for many years, and everyone who helped him achieve these results.

Khoroshilov was unable to say goodbye to the “White Circus” on the international stage: FIS barred the Russian athlete from both the Olympics and the World Cup. In Kirovsk, however, the team prepared a memorable retirement ceremony for him.

Alexander Khoroshilov's main achievements:

• victory in a World Cup event in Schladming;
• 10 podium finishes in Alpine Ski World Cup events;
• participation in five Olympics;
• third place in a World Cup event in Wengen in January 2020;
• three top-10 finishes at World Championships;
• fifth place in the slalom at the 2017 World Championships in St. Moritz.
