FIS allows Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in 2026/27 season under neutral conditions

On 1 September, the FIS Council allowed athletes with Russian and Belarusian sporting citizenship to compete in federation events throughout the 2026/27 season. This was reported on the FIS website.

The decision was made after reviewing the situation in light of recent rulings by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Athletes and teams from Russia and Belarus will be allowed to compete if they sign a neutrality declaration. The document is based on principles established by FIS.

As the federation's press centre clarified, compliance with the neutrality requirements will be continuously monitored. Participants may face sanctions if violations are identified.

The return does not mean full team participation: athletes are allowed to compete only in individual events. In addition, national symbols must not be present at competitions. This applies to:

• flags;
• anthems;
• uniforms.

All admitted athletes must also comply with the applicable anti-doping requirements currently in force.
