Raimund Plancker to Replace Markus Waldner as FIS Chief Race Director

From 1 November, Raimund Plancker will head FIS men’s competitions as chief race director. He previously served as assistant race director for the men’s speed events. His appointment follows Markus Waldner’s departure from the position of chief race director.
Plancker will take up his new role for the first time at the start control for the slalom in Levi (Finland). The race will take place on 15 November. FIS has already found a specialist to replace Plancker as assistant race director.
Otherwise, the composition of FIS’s alpine skiing management team will remain unchanged. Hannes Trinkl will continue to oversee the speed events, while Janec Hladnik will be responsible for the technical events.
“We are very pleased to have reached an excellent solution for the whole team,” said FIS alpine skiing director Janne Leskinen. “First and foremost because Raimund is one of the most experienced experts in alpine skiing, and also because this will ensure continuity.”
Plancker was born in Val Gardena (Italy) and is regarded as one of the most successful and respected coaches in alpine skiing. He spent ten years with the Italian national team, working with Dominik Paris among others.
“I am very pleased with this new appointment, and it is a great honour for me to take on this responsibility. I am doing it because I know I will be working hand in hand with an incredible team of FIS professionals,” said Plancker. His move to the new position was supported by Markus Waldner.
“Over the past four years, I have learnt a great deal and seen how FIS and the sport are changing and developing. I am convinced that our team is on the right path to take alpine skiing to a new level and make it even more promising and popular,” added the new chief race director of the men’s competitions.
