Sofia Goggia Leaves Argentina Training Camp Early Due to Feeling Unwell

Sofia Goggia’s trip to Argentina has ended earlier than planned. The Italian alpine skier, who won the bronze medal in the downhill at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympic Games, began feeling unwell while in Ushuaia.
After consulting the FISI medical commission and discussing the situation with Dr Andrea Panzeri, the athlete decided to return to Italy. The necessary examinations will be carried out there in the coming days to help establish the cause of her malaise.
Goggia’s early return was discussed in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport by women’s national team director Gianluca Rulfi. According to him, it was not possible to complete the full set of medical procedures in Argentina: “We did not carry them out in Argentina because there was no possibility of conducting all the necessary tests.”
Rulfi clarified that Sofia was tired and had stopped training in recent days. However, no injuries were found. “Sofia was feeling unwell, she was tired and stopped training over the last few days. There were no injuries, but she did not feel like training,” the team director explained.
Over the next two weeks, the Italian team plans to continue preparing for the speed disciplines in La Parva (Chile). However, Goggia will miss this stage, despite the good results she previously recorded in giant slalom training.
“It was not possible to carry out more in-depth examinations in Argentina, so we decided to send her back to Italy to check everything as thoroughly as possible,” Rulfi added. Dr Andrea Panzeri will carry out a clinical examination of the athlete in the near future.
