The Intrigue Continues

Although all the winners of the women's World Cup Small Crystal Globes have been decided, the fight for the season's main trophy is still ongoing. And it is quite possible that the suspense will continue until the final race, which takes place tomorrow. Today, we can look forward to the final women's slalom of the season.

The World Cup slalom title - the ninth of her career - was secured by Mikaela Shiffrin long before the finals.

● Mikaela also won the previous World Cup slalom in Åre, finishing 94 hundredths of a second ahead of Germany's Emma Aicher. In Åre, she once again matched Janica Kostelić's record for the number of slalom wins in a single season, winning her eighth race in the discipline. Mikaela had already equalled the same record in the 2018/19 season. In total, Mikaela Shiffrin has reached the slalom podium nine times this winter.

● Emma Aicher's second place (Germany) was her 12th World Cup podium. Aicher now has four podium finishes in each of slalom, downhill and super-G, and she is the only alpine skier to have reached the podium in three different disciplines this season.

● Wendy Holdener (Switzerland) has finished among the slalom medallists 40 times in her career. She came third in Åre, allowing her to continue the fight for second place in the slalom standings.

● After the speed events in Kvitfjell, Mikaela Shiffrin leads the overall standings with 1,286 points. She is 45 points ahead of Emma Aicher, and only Aicher can catch Shiffrin in the fight for the Big Crystal Globe. Two races remain until the end of the season, including today's.

● If Shiffrin does not reach the slalom podium, the fight for the overall World Cup title will continue until tomorrow's giant slalom, regardless of Aicher's result.
