Val de Wanne lies in the Belgian Ardennes near Stavelot, on the side of the Amblève valley. There are two lifts, easy and intermediate runs, and around 120 metres of vertical - a lot for Belgium. There is no snowmaking, and the area works only in snowy weeks, usually from late December to mid-March. A day pass costs twenty euros.

What visitors say about the resort
The compliments go to Belgium's longest alpine descent and to its standing as one of the best places in Belgium to learn to ski: a gentle slope, rental on site, cross-country loops and a sledging run next door. The chalet at the top, with its large terrace and wide view over the countryside, is a regular favourite, and the resort is rated the best value for money in the Liège province.
Criticism starts with the terrain: there is essentially one run, and a competent skier exhausts it within half an hour. Snow is the bigger problem. Natural snowfall in the Ardennes is scarce, every opening depends on the weather and the season can be very short. The snowmaking story is remembered bitterly: a court case brought by neighbours cost the resort its operating permit and the use of its cannons, and the owner who invested in them went bankrupt. On good days the lifts build long queues.
