Ak-Bulak - Talgar

Trail information
Ak-Bulak is a 1-hour drive from central Almaty and is a small gem of a ski resort. Although it is lower than Shymbulak and has fewer, older lifts (only five main chairlifts), the terrain is perhaps more interesting. It is definitely steeper, especially at the top, with more gullies and trees to explore, and definitely fewer rocky, more grassy slopes.
With majestic Talgar Peak looming over the slopes, the views from the summit can be spectacular on a sunny day. With 1,000 m of vertical drop (more than at the neighboring resort), this place should be one of the best snow destinations in Central Asia. An added bonus is that there is almost nobody here during the week (weekends can be slightly crowded).
Ak-Bulak is a good place for beginners. There is a long, gentle, gradual descent for practice and learning. At the same time, the terrain above the treeline, with smooth snow running to the valley floor, and short pillow lines winding between the trees make Ak-Bulak a winner for expert skills and thrill seekers. This ski video showcases the beginner slopes perfectly. This video, on the other hand, is intended only for the aforementioned thrill seekers.
