Weather at Alta

Weather at Alta: a six-day forecast for three elevations of the mountain. Temperature, precipitation, wind and cloud cover from MET Norway. Updated several times a day.

What the weather at Alta is usually like

The ski area runs from 2,600 to 3,216 m above sea level - a 616 m vertical. In January the daytime average is -3 °C at the base and -7 °C at the summit. Plan for that 4 °C gap: what feels right at the base will be cold up top.

Average daytime highs at the summit stay below freezing from November through March. Last season brought 39 cm of snow here. These are observations from a single season, not a long-term norm: a snowy year here can be twice a lean one.

The season usually runs from 28 November to 25 April.

By March the base is around 1 °C while the summit still holds -3 °C: on days like that, start early and stay high. Based on monthly averages and the resort elevations. For the coming days, see the forecast above.
