There are more than 300 ski resorts in the United States of America, most of which are open year-round.
The largest resort on the US East Coast, Killington Ski Resort, has 155 pistes covering 140 km. The ski area ranges from 323 to 1,293 m, with a vertical drop of 970 m. Alta is considered the most popular destination for skiers. It is located at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon, with pistes at 2,600 - 3,215 m and a vertical drop of 615 m. Whiteface has 86 pistes and 50 km of cross-country trails. Its ski areas range from 372 to 1,337 m and cover 127 hectares. The best-known resort in North America, Aspen, has 200 pistes and four separate ski areas: Snowmass, Buttermilk, Aspen Highlands and Aspen Mountain. Its highest point is 4,247 m. Breckenridge is considered one of the most visited ski centres. It spans four mountains and has 152 pistes, 29 lifts, five snowparks, two half-pipes, a ski school and sledding runs. Among US resorts, Aspen is the most expensive and prestigious, while Killington is the most affordable. All the resorts offer good value for money.
