Gorki stands in the Oryol region, on the side of a river valley not far from the city. The area is very small: four lifts and a little over half a kilometre of easy runs with forty-six metres of vertical. It works on manmade snow, floodlit in the evening, and serves as the town's base for people still learning. A day pass costs around seventeen euros.

What visitors say about the resort

Being ten minutes from Orel is the first thing visitors mention, along with the fact that this is the only resort in the region with snow cannons, giving it a longer season than the surrounding hills. The floodlighting for evening skiing, the spread of runs from green to black plus separate tubing lanes, the broad rental stock and the two-storey alpine-style cafe with a fireplace all get positive notes, as does the pine forest setting.

Rental equipment is the main target: reviews describe wet boots, a sole coming away and a delaminated base. The runs are short with little vertical, and confident skiers tire of them quickly. The drag lift is a constant irritation: many visitors have never used one, fall and lie beside the track, blocking everyone behind. There is no medical staff on site. The cottages draw complaints about damp, dirt and no sound insulation at prices people consider high.
