What visitors say about the resort
The praise goes to two areas linked on one pass. Goryu has close to a kilometre of vertical and an eight minute gondola usually boarded without waiting. Toomi's wide green runs are rated among the best in the valley for first days, while 47 has a terrain park and a halfpipe, a rarity in Japan. January guests report 20 to 50 cm of fresh almost every morning. Night skiing runs and weekdays are quiet.
Weekends and the off-piste rules draw criticism. At weekends and on holidays the Goryu beginner zone fills with novices and the gondola can mean a twenty minute wait on a powder morning. Off-piste skiing is officially banned across most local areas, which reviewers blame for the resort losing out to other Japanese areas. Hakuba 47 has neither a village nor slopeside beds, so you arrive by bus or car and the base is purely functional. Nightlife means Happo or Echoland.
