Himos stands in central Finland near the town of Jämsä, an hour and a half from Tampere. The hill is low, with a hundred and fifty metres of vertical, but there are seventeen lifts and the whole area is floodlit - at these latitudes winter skiing without lights would be close to impossible. The runs are mostly intermediate and hard, and there is a park. Some twenty kilometres of cross-country trails run around it, part of them lit as well.

What visitors say about the resort
The praise is for what many call the best terrain in southern Finland: the runs are spread across several sectors, thoughtfully laid out and meticulously groomed, with dependable cover. Lift capacity is usually enough that midweek skiing happens without queues, and opinion of the lift system improved once the four-seat chair on West Himos opened. The drive from the south is short, and children under seven ride free when wearing a helmet.
Saturday crowds are the standard complaint, as weekends fill up noticeably, and so is the fact that two days is about the limit before things start repeating. Early in the season only part of the terrain is open while the full-price pass is still charged, which visitors resent. Reviewers also miss warm rooms and free places to leave gear, find cabins expensive once the compulsory cleaning fee is added, and note there is little to do once the lifts stop.
