Kush-Tau is one of the Sterlitamak shikhans in Bashkortostan: ancient reefs left by a Permian sea, standing as separate domes above the plain. In 2020 the hill was saved from quarrying and now holds protected status. The ski area on its flank is small: three lifts, 185 metres of vertical, a separate nursery area, and more serious runs by the long drag lift.

What visitors say about the resort
What earns praise is proximity: half an hour from Sterlitamak, a workable substitute for driving to the Urals. Visitors like the view from the top of the shikhan, the gentle learning slopes that suit putting children on skis, cheap rental right by the lower runs and daily grooming. On weekdays the lift is almost empty. There is a tubing run and a service building with a cafeteria, lockers and a first-aid point.
Almost everything else draws criticism. A single drag lift serves three pistes and cannot cope: weekend queues are huge, and people stood an hour and a half at the ticket window because only one till was open. The runs are called short, often closed off for children's training and covered in ice rather than snow, with the price judged too high for that. Cash only, no evening lighting, cold dirty toilets and an unploughed car park.
