The resort stands not in Magnitogorsk itself but forty kilometres away, on the shore of Lake Bannoye in Bashkortostan, on the Kryktytau ridge of the Southern Urals. A gondola climbs to the top, giving around 450 metres of vertical, which by Ural standards is a lot. The runs split evenly between easy and intermediate and drop through forest. Lake Bannoye is the deepest in Bashkiria, and the whole of it is in view from the top station.

What visitors say about the resort
Hardware and grooming earn the compliments: a modern gondola, a comfortable ride up, carefully prepared slopes and a reputation as the leader of the southern Urals. The views over Lake Bannoye bring people who are not even there to ski, and the infrastructure gets credit: cafes, rental, instructors, children's zones and hotels with pools. For locals the clincher is a drive of under an hour.
Organisation and a shortage of terrain provoke criticism. The queues form less on the hill than at the ticket office: the vending machines do not work and service is slow, so at weekends there is a long wait before skiing starts. There are barely more than three runs, and the grading is seen as inflated, with skiers calling the marked reds and blacks blue. There is no freeride and the off-piste is scoured bare. Wind, ice, a paid but unequipped car park and the price level all draw complaints.
