Katharina Liensberger Takes Her First Turns After Serious Injury

Austrian alpine skier Katharina Liensberger has put her skis back on after suffering a serious injury at the beginning of the year. She has already made her first turns on snow and spoke about her recovery, as well as how she will plan her next steps.
At the beginning of January, Liensberger injured her right knee during giant slalom training in St Michael im Lungau. The session was part of preparations for the World Cup event in Kranjska Gora. A medical examination revealed a fracture of the tibial plateau, a torn meniscus and a torn medial collateral ligament.
The Austrian described her return to snow as an incredible moment and thanked her team for its support throughout the journey so far. According to Liensberger, there are still many stages to go before she can return to racing, but for now the most important thing for her is the joy of making her first turns. After everything that happened last year, simply being able to smile on skis again so soon seems almost unbelievable to her.
The athlete admitted that she had not realised how much effort her comeback would require and still does not know what lies ahead. At the same time, she intends to remain positive and follow the same path as before: gradually, step by step and day by day. Liensberger considers steady progress the most important result and stresses that she will give her body as much time as it needs for a full recovery.
Before returning to competition, the world champion still faces a full training period. She will miss the events in Sölden and Levi, which in her view are taking place too soon. The Austrian has promised to share further updates on her recovery on social media.
