Sölden sits in the Ötztal and runs longer than almost anywhere in the Alps, from October into May: two glaciers up top, the Rettenbach and the Tiefenbach, joined by a tunnel through the mountain. The World Cup season opens on the Rettenbach piste at the end of October - the first races of the year are held here. Three peaks above three thousand metres - Gaislachkogl, Tiefenbachkogl and Schwarze Schneide - carry viewing platforms, and inside the Gaislachkogl is the 007 Elements exhibition: Spectre was filmed on this mountain in 2015. The longest descent, from the glacier down to the village, runs for fifteen kilometres.
