Valérie Grenier Injures Knee During Training in Sölden

Валери Гренье повредила колено на тренировке в Зёльдене

Valérie Grenier, Canada’s leading female alpine skier, will miss the first race of the season after injuring her knee during training in Sölden and is now returning home. An exact diagnosis has not yet been established, although the injury appears to be serious. Surgery is scheduled for this Friday.

“It is with immense pain that I share this news with you: two days ago, during training here in Sölden, I injured my knee. I am flying home tomorrow, and I still do not know the exact diagnosis — I am due to have surgery this Friday. Saying that I am devastated would be an understatement,” Grenier wrote.

The athlete thanked everyone for their support, which means a great deal to her at the moment, and wished the competitors good luck in this weekend’s races. Valérie promised to share updates on her condition next week, when more information becomes available.

The Canadian ended last season on a high, winning the final giant slalom at the World Cup finals in Lillehammer. Before that, she had already had to recover from a serious injury: at the end of January 2024, Grenier crashed during a downhill in Cortina d’Ampezzo, suffering a fractured shoulder and damage to two knee ligaments.

She returned to the World Cup at the start of the season before last and spent a long time battling for good results, which finally came last season. This winter, Valérie had planned to work under star coach Mauro Pini.
