What visitors say about the resort
The praise is for dry snow and the near-total absence of lift lines: visitors report skiing straight back onto the chair at the bottom of every run. Wide, gentle pistes make it a favourite for beginners and families, and there are fewer restrictions on leaving the marked runs than at the better known Japanese resorts. The milky white onsen water at Norikura Kogen, free parking, easy rentals and spring snow that can last into May all get warm mentions.
The age of the infrastructure draws criticism: lift towers and rental facilities look worn, and reviewers say plainly that the place needs investment. The village feels like a ghost town in winter, with only some lodgings open, a thin choice of restaurants and nothing to do in the evening. The approach road is winding and slow, with tunnels, and English is barely spoken, which adds friction for foreign visitors.
