What visitors say about the resort

The praise is for something no other resort offers: skiing on the flank of an active volcano, with Lake Villarrica and native forest in view and Pucon twenty minutes away. More than half the marked terrain is gentle, so families and beginners are well served, and reviewers describe a small, unpolished, almost homely atmosphere. The off-piste is the other draw - after a storm visitors report finding fresh lines all day.

Decaying infrastructure and the weather attract most of the criticism. Most chairlifts stand idle, one has been partly dismantled, and skiers are left with a slow chair from the car park plus surface lifts covering less than 200 m of vertical. North-facing slopes and the warm puelche wind spoil the snow, while rain, fog and gales close the area very often: one account describes a week in which the lifts never ran.
