Weather at Pitztaler Glacier
Weather at Pitztaler Glacier: a six-day forecast for three elevations of the mountain. Temperature, precipitation, wind and cloud cover from MET Norway.
What the weather at Pitztaler Glacier is usually like
The ski area runs from 1,740 to 3,440 m above sea level - a 1,700 m vertical. In January the daytime average is -2 °C at the base and -13 °C at the summit. Plan for that 11 °C gap: what feels right at the base will be cold up top. The summit sits around -13 °C at the same time of year - at that point the wind matters more than the thermometer.
Average daytime highs at the summit stay below freezing from October through May. Last season brought 506 cm of snow here. The snowiest month was January: 101 cm over 7 days with snowfall. The snowpack was deepest in May, at roughly 144 cm. These are observations from a single season, not a long-term norm: a snowy year here can be twice a lean one.
The season usually runs from 26 September to 2 May.
By May the base is around 9 °C while the summit still holds -2 °C: on days like that, start early and stay high. Based on monthly averages and the resort elevations. For the coming days, see the forecast above.
