1 / 13YongPyong Resort is a ski resort in Pyeongchang County (South Korea, Kanwondo). It offers 24.2 km of pistes and 0.4 km of cross-country trails.

YongPyong is one of the largest areas in South Korea, and in 2018 it staged the technical alpine events of the Pyeongchang Olympics. There is almost nothing easy here: over forty per cent of the kilometres are black, and the hardest, the Rainbow runs, lie on the back of Dragon Peak, reached only by the eight-seat summit gondola. Snowfall is heavy, around two and a half metres a winter, and the skiing is mostly on natural snow. Beyond sport the resort is known as the filming location of Winter Sonata, the drama that began the Korean television boom in the early 2000s.

What visitors say about the resort
YongPyong is valued for its Olympic legacy: alpine skiing events were held here in 2018, and the pistes live up to that reputation. Visitors praise the long Rainbow piste, night skiing and the resort's convenience for international guests - signs and instructors speak English.
Complaints include weekend queues when visitors arrive from Seoul, as well as wind at the summit, which can lead to the gondola being closed. The other issue is artificial snow, and the pistes become chopped up by evening.
