Weather at Zugspitze

Weather at Zugspitze: a six-day forecast for three elevations of the mountain. Temperature, precipitation, wind and cloud cover from MET Norway. Updated several times a day.

What the weather at Zugspitze is usually like

The ski area runs from 2,000 to 2,650 m above sea level - a 650 m vertical. In January the daytime average is -4 °C at the base and -9 °C at the summit. Plan for that 4 °C gap: what feels right at the base will be cold up top. The summit sits around -9 °C at the same time of year - at that point the wind matters more than the thermometer.

Average daytime highs at the summit stay below freezing from November through March. Last season brought 902 cm of snow here. The snowiest month was January: 202 cm over 14 days with snowfall. The snowpack was deepest in April, at roughly 213 cm. These are observations from a single season, not a long-term norm: a snowy year here can be twice a lean one.

The season usually runs from 28 November to 2 May.

By March the base is around 1 °C while the summit still holds -3 °C: on days like that, start early and stay high. Based on monthly averages and the resort elevations. For the coming days, see the forecast above.
