Furano is one of Japan's best-known ski resorts. The Prince Hotels chain operates the ski resort and two large hotel complexes. The resort occupies a central position on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido and receives snow from Siberian storm systems. Furano's winter sports area extends across two mountain slopes, Furano and Kitanomine.
Runs by difficulty
Skiers and snowboarders can find slopes for all ability levels here, along with excellent forest runs. Beginners and families with children can find ideal terrain at the two base stations. During the main season, night skiing is available every evening.

Furano is appreciated for having almost as much snow as Niseko, but far fewer people. Visitors praise its well-groomed, long runs, nearly 1,000 m of vertical, and the genuine Japanese town below rather than a resort backdrop.
Complaints include officially restricted off-piste skiing, with freeriders criticizing the rules in reviews. The second issue is the cold: central Hokkaido is freezing, and temperatures of -20 °C are normal here. Visitors also note that the ski area is split into two sectors with an inconvenient connection.
