Snow is what gets praised - by local standards this is one of the more reliable areas in the canton of Fribourg. The lower section is the favourite: wide slopes at an ideal carving pitch, nicely rolling, with several line choices. The Gastlosen Express quad replaced the old long drag lift, the Schattenhalb drag runs for night skiing on Wednesdays, there is a long toboggan run, and it is rarely busy.

Size and hardware are the complaints. Apart from the quad there are only drag lifts, two of them dating from the sixties and seventies, and on quiet days they simply are not started - one report describes a car park with two dozen cars and the lifts standing still. When cover is thin, the very runs that make the area interesting stay closed and grass shows through, while the upper section sits in shade until February. Much of the day goes on traverses along dark forest links.
