Eggli/La Videmanette - Gstaad/Saanen/Rougemont

The relaxed character of the skiing is what people like. The wide open fields at Eggli are called one of the better places to make your first turns, and the grooming is rated faultless. Numbers are low, midweek there are no lift lines at all, and reviewers name that as the main reason to come. The sector's showpiece is the descent from La Videmanette to Rougemont, the longest in the region, with alternating blue and red sections.

Altitude is the weak spot. Hardly any terrain sits above 2,000 metres, so cover is unreliable and quality turns variable as spring approaches, while snowmaking at Eggli rates as adequate and no better. Advanced skiers find nothing beyond a few short black pitches. The fragmented region is another drawback: Eggli and La Videmanette connect to none of the other Gstaad sectors, so moving around means a ski bus or the train.
