Killington is the largest ski resort in the eastern United States, earning it the nickname "The Beast of the East". Skiing is spread across six peaks: Killington Peak, Skye Peak, Bear Mountain, Ramshead, Snowdon and Sunrise. From the highest point at 1,293 m to the Skyeship base station at 355 m, the vertical drop is 938 m - more than at any other resort in New England.

The resort is geared towards experienced skiers: of its 118 km of pistes, 51 km are difficult, 47 km intermediate and just 20 km easy. Beginner areas are located at the foot of Snowshed and Ramshead, with dedicated chairlifts and three magic carpets serving them.

Good to know

The season here is the longest in North America: lifts usually open in early November and close at the end of May - on Superstar, snow lasts until Memorial Day. It does not last by itself: the snowmaking system covers about 600 acres (240 ha) and supplies up to 9 million gallons of water per day to approximately 300 snow cannons.

A Killington lift pass is also valid at nearby Pico Mountain, served by a free bus. There is no direct ski connection between the two.

Longest run

The longest run here is Juggernaut, at 9.7 km: a gentle trail leading from the top of Killington Peak all the way down to the bottom of the Skyeship area.

Most difficult runs

The most challenging run is Outer Limits on Bear Mountain, 1.1 km long with a 350 m vertical drop. It is considered the steepest and longest mogul run in the eastern United States.

Snowparks

There are six parks spread across Bear Mountain, Ramshead and Pico, ranging from a beginner line with small boxes to large jumps. Two halfpipes are in operation. According to the resort's official website.

Features

At the end of November, Killington hosts an FIS Women's World Cup event - giant slalom and slalom on the Superstar piste.

In summer, the mountain operates as a bike park, with the K-1 gondola carrying cyclists uphill.

Night skiing

There is no night skiing at the resort.
