Reviewers value a combination rare in British Columbia: a family atmosphere at prices well below the province's headline resorts. The learning area is held up as a model, with covered magic carpets feeding a high-speed six-pack. Snowfall is generous and, next to Whistler, the place is barely busy. Tree skiers point to the sheer amount of terrain through temperate rainforest, and summer brings zip-lining and lift-served mountain biking.
Access is the recurring complaint: the ferry to the island is expensive and eats a chunk of the day. Midweek the resort is described as a ghost town with facilities shut. Parking is a sore point - a half-kilometre strip, narrow, rutted and iced over, leaving a long walk to the lifts. Lodging is called spartan and stuck in the 1970s, no real village was ever built, and the sunny aspect leaves snow quality often far from optimal.
