The largest ski area in North America is really two separate mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb, joined in 2008 by the Peak 2 Peak gondola. Its span between towers is a little over three kilometres, still a world record. In 2010 the alpine and freestyle events of the Vancouver Olympics were held here, two hours up the coast highway from the city. The ocean brings huge snowfalls and a long season, but the base sits at just 675 m, and down there it often rains.

What visitors say about the resort
Whistler is described in reviews as North America's largest resort and an almost universal favorite: two mountains, 8,000 hectares, a 1.5 km vertical drop and the Peak 2 Peak gondola between the summits. The village is praised for being pedestrian-friendly and lively, with restaurants for every budget.
The main complaint is the weather: the coastal location means rain at the bottom when it is snowing higher up, while visibility disappears in the clouds. Another issue is lift queues at weekends and the prices of everything. Visitors also complain about the road from Vancouver, which is sometimes closed in winter.
