Super-G Final

The race for the women's World Cup speed titles remains open right to the very end. Only today's super-G in Kvitfjell will decide who wins the Small Crystal Globe in this discipline. Sofia Goggia (Italy) and Alice Robinson (New Zealand) are battling for the trophy. For both athletes, this could be their first World Cup title in super-G: Goggia already has four globes, but all of them were won in downhill; her best super-G result is third place in last season's standings. Robinson has no World Cup titles, finished second in the giant slalom standings last season, and placed 17th in the super-G standings. But this season, everything has gone differently.

This season, Sofia Goggia has reached the super-G podium four times, winning two races in the discipline.

Emma Aicher has also won twice this season, but the German lost her chance of winning the super-G World Cup after a poor result in Val di Fassa. She is 145 points behind Goggia before the final, so even a race win would not be enough to take the globe. Alice Robinson, however, can still win the title today if she wins the race and the Italian has a poor result.

As in the previous super-G in Val di Fassa, the medal battle could involve more than just the World Cup speed-event leaders. Elena Curtoni won the Italian race in early March, Kajsa Vickhoff Lie was second, and Asja Zenere sensationally took third after starting 33rd. Her third-place finish earned her a spot in the final, and today she will start 26th.

We will also see Mikaela Shiffrin today. She intends to collect crucial World Cup points in the battle for the Big Crystal Globe. After yesterday's downhill, Shiffrin's lead over her main rival Emma Aicher has been reduced to 95 points. Mikaela has raced in super-G only twice this season: at the start of the season in St. Moritz, where she went out, and then at the Val di Fassa event, where she finished 23rd.
