Ozolkalns lies near Cēsis on the bank of the Gauja inside the national park of the same name - one of the loveliest places in Latvia, known for the sandstone cliffs along the river. The ski area is tiny: four lifts, seventy-five metres of vertical and a longest run of half a kilometre. It works alongside a campsite, and in winter people tube and ski cross-country here as well.

What visitors say about the resort
By Latvian standards there is actually something to ski here, and that is the main compliment: the runs count among the longest in the country and a chairlift, a rarity on local hills, carries you up alongside drag lifts and a children's tow. The pistes are graded by level, and in good weather a boardercross and freeride zone are prepared too. Visitors praise the snow, fair prices, the staff, the rental, instructors and on-site lodging.
Weekend crowding is the usual gripe - Saturday and Sunday bring lift queues, and regulars advise planning a weekday visit instead. Formal complaints mention the state of the obstacle course: a snapped rope, slippery wooden structures and no clear way down when the weather turns. One sour episode involved staff confirming by phone that the park was open, only for evening arrivals to be told it was shutting within the half hour.
