Trail information
Riekstukalns is the largest ski resort in Latvia and is located close to the capital, about a 30-minute drive from the outskirts of Riga. Riekstukalns' ski pistes are suitable for experienced skiers and snowboarders, as well as for those who prefer more relaxed skiing and people who have only recently started learning these winter sports. Everyone will find something for themselves at Riekstukalns!
If you are visiting Riekstukalns only for cross-country skiing, you can leave your car directly in the cross-country ski area next to the rental centre and ticket office. The cross-country trail runs through coniferous forest and wooded fields with hilly terrain and steep slopes ranging from 25 to 60 m. There are several trails to suit different levels of fitness.
Riekstukalns' main attraction is the observation tower, which opened in summer 2018. It is located in the newest part of Riekstukalns, on the Mežkalni ridge. Its highest platform is 16 m high, while the hill ridge is 80 m above sea level. The tower offers magnificent views of Latvia's picturesque landscape, as well as the capital Riga and its tallest buildings. Best of all, the tower is free.
