Milzkalns stands near Tukums, about an hour from Riga, and works like a typical Latvian area: under fifty metres of vertical, but nine lifts and a hill divided into many short runs. Almost all the skiing is easy. The season holds from December to mid-March and depends entirely on the frost - without it there is no making snow.

What visitors say about the resort
The density of lifts is what people praise: nearly ten of them on a small hill, so you are back at the top quickly, and the runs are graded from children's slopes to more technical lines. The snowpark with its wide, readable kickers gets a special mention. Almost the whole hill is floodlit and evening skiing runs late, to midnight at weekends, when the snow firms up. Rental covers suits and helmets too, and there are instructors and a free cross-country loop.
Scale is the main limitation: the longest run barely clears three hundred metres, which does not keep a competent skier busy for long. On snowy weekends demand clearly outstrips what the hill can absorb - slots get booked out in advance, and the resort has gone as far as running a queue app so you can take your place while still driving from home. Detailed visitor write-ups are scarce online.
