Espace Lumière is one of the largest areas in the Southern Alps: Pra Loup, above the Ubaye, is linked across a ridge to La Foux d'Allos in the Verdon valley. Pra Loup was built in the mid-1960s on a flat larch-covered terrace, and the area's name comes from the local weather - around three hundred sunny days a year. The upper terrain is open and high alpine, the lower wooded, and the two sides connect over the Pra Loup pass. This part of the Alps sees little precipitation, so nearly half the slopes rely on snowmaking.

What visitors say about the resort
Visitors praise the space and the sun: 180 kilometres of piste in the Southern Alps, wide bowls where you can pick your own line away from the groomers, and almost no queues. Intermediates and strong skiers rate the red runs at Pra Loup and La Foux, families the gentler Seignus sector.
Price draws the criticism: for the Southern Alps the pass is considered expensive, especially when the link between the two halves of the area is shut, which happens often enough. The second complaint is the evenings: the entertainment on offer amounts to a cinema and one club. The modest altitude tells as well, and in mild winters the lower snow does not hold.
