Les Orres sits on a sunny flank above the Serre-Ponçon reservoir, the largest artificial lake in Western Europe, visible from almost every run. The village was built in the 1970s in the middle of a pine forest, and the trees reach high: the lower half of the skiing threads between them, while the upper half opens onto the slopes of the Boussolenc. The terrain is mostly intermediate, with a terrain park and a boardercross. The Southern Alps supply the sun, and the vertical of over a kilometre is unexpectedly generous for a resort this size.

The praise is for the sun and the calm: this is the Southern Alps, the light is generous, and there are few people on the pistes or the lifts. The area is considered underrated - its reds and blacks are genuinely steep, much of it runs through forest, and gentle slopes are set aside for beginners. Lodging and groceries cost less than at the famous resorts, and the apartments are praised for their views.
Parking draws criticism, its arrangement grating against the overall price of a holiday. Après-ski is rated below everything else. A separate complaint concerns noisy groups in the residences, with some guests writing that they had to sleep in earplugs.
