The praise is for the vertical: around a thousand metres from top to base is rare in the Pyrenees and makes for genuinely long descents. Visitors like the amphitheatre of peaks the resort sits in, and ski buses from Pau and Bayonne make a day trip possible without a car. Beginners get the Happy Place learning zone, there is a snowpark, and the day pass is among the cheapest in the range.
Dependence on the weather is what reviewers criticise most: the resort is exposed, wind and snow decide how much of the area opens, and the usual advice is to book at the last minute. Some reports are blunt about the management, one describing the area opening at eleven instead of the scheduled 8:45. Strong skiers find too few difficult runs and families complain about thin entertainment.
