Trail information
Worth knowing
The Hochzillertal and Hochfügen ski resorts, which merged more than 10 years ago and are located at the entrance to the Zillertal valley, offer superb skiing. From the main access point at Kaltenbach in the Zillertal valley, the lifts and pistes at the ski resort extend to almost 2,400 m, providing reliable snow cover until April.
Lifts and pistes
Most of the lifts at this winter sports resort are modern gondolas and chairlifts that quickly carry skiers and snowboarders up the mountain. Kaltenbach and Hochfügen offer pistes for all abilities and an ideal skiing experience.
Resort features
Skiers can enjoy first-class restaurants at the ski resort, offering culinary delights in cosy mountain huts accompanied by impressive panoramic views of the Zillertal valley and the Tux Alpine regions. Younger skiers are well looked after at the Zwergerl Club, while experienced skiers and snowboarders can make dynamic turns on some of the resort's steep slopes.
More entertainment can be found in the high-altitude alpine bowl of Hochfügen, a freeride paradise where visitors can explore untouched slopes well into spring.

What visitors say about the resort
Kaltenbach is praised for its snow: its northern exposure and elevation of up to 2,500 m keep the snow cover for longer than at neighbouring resorts in the Zillertal, and the pistes are almost always perfectly groomed. Visitors highlight the link with Hochfügen, which together provides around 90 km of skiing without the crowds.
The climb is a common complaint: the gondola from the valley is long, and queues form in the morning. Another issue is that the village below is so quiet that it can be boring, with nowhere to go in the evening. Visitors also note that the valley run is not always open, so they have to return by lift.
