The praise is for the resort's trump card - the long valley descent with a hefty vertical, for reliably groomed natural snow and for an unusually generous number of sunny days by German standards. Visitors also like the mountain huts with food and a view, and the fact that the area stays small and unintimidating.
Weather and hardware draw criticism. In lean winters the lower part of the valley run is reported to be stony, the cable car builds queues on good weekends, and many find the ride up expensive. The overhaul of the main cable car was a story of its own: while the work ran, the Rossleiten, Steinling and Kaltwasser drags stayed idle and skiing came down to that single valley run. The resort itself remains open.
