This vertical drop allows you to ski from top to bottom without changing lifts and noticeably changes the conditions during the descent. The praise is for a resort that has stayed off the international radar: midweek there are no queues at all, the pistes are quiet and lodging and food prices come as a pleasant surprise. The vertical is substantial for the size of the place, so descents run long. The real magnet is the off-piste, above all the Canalone del Groppera couloir, reason enough on its own to come. Altitude and snowmaking keep cover dependable.
Grooming is where the criticism lands, with frequent complaints about hard, frozen surfaces and runs left untouched by the machines for days. Visitors describe lifts closing early, closed signs posted on runs that were open, no visible patrol on the hill and reckless skiers cutting across. At weekends Milan arrives and the quiet disappears. The choice of pistes is modest, the same lines repeat by the end of a week, and nightlife amounts to a couple of bars.
