Savognin lies in the Surses valley of Graubünden, halfway between Chur and the Julier pass. The slopes are unusually well arranged: wide and following the fall line, without traverses or shelves, and the longest run from Piz Cartas down to the village covers eleven kilometres and fifteen hundred metres of vertical. It is quiet, one of the few areas in Graubünden without weekend queues. The valley is Romansh-speaking: the Surses is among the last places where the language is used at home.

The praise is for the mix of quiet, sun and price: there are more sunny days here than the Swiss average, Zurich is only two hours away, and it is noticeably emptier than neighbouring Arosa-Lenzerheide. The pistes are very wide, and there is a children's area, toboggan runs and a park - a family place by design and by temperament.
Dynamic pass pricing draws criticism: guests write that the ratio of area size to ticket cost no longer adds up. The second complaint is that not all lifts and runs are opened, and working out what is running has to be done on arrival.
