Two Queyras villages - Saint-Véran and Molines-en-Queyras - share a single ski area on the flanks of the Col de Longet. Saint-Véran stands at 2,042 m and counts as the highest permanently inhabited commune in Europe; its timber houses with open drying galleries have been built that way for centuries. The Queyras regional park, which contains both villages, is among the driest and sunniest corners of the French Alps - over three hundred sunny days a year, which is why Saint-Véran has an observatory. The skiing is small-scale and queue-free, but the snow lasts: the slopes are high and face north.

What visitors say about the resort
The praise is for having the largest and highest of the Queyras ski areas with a solid vertical, and for Saint-Veran itself, one of the officially most beautiful villages in France, full of old stone and sundials and effectively car-free. Empty slopes and the quiet come up constantly, along with plenty of accessible freeride on both north and south aspects, very cheap lift passes and good village restaurants worth the trip even without skis.
The lifts draw criticism for being old and slow, with only a pair of chairs and everything else T-bars and platters, and the long tows are especially punishing for snowboarders. The piste skiing suits beginners and intermediates, leaving strong skiers dependent on the off-piste. The village, for all its beauty, means walking uphill on icy streets, and getting here is a long way.
