The praise is for how easy the mountain is to reach and for its real village, with restaurants, bars and a genuine apres-ski scene - a rarity in Australia. Visitors note a solid lift fleet, including six-seat detachables that thin out the loading queues, and one of the strongest snowmaking systems in the state. Midweek the skiing is relaxed, with barely any queues even during school holidays.
Weekends and holidays are where complaints start: chairlift waits stretch past half an hour, on top of queues for resort entry, chain fitting and rentals. The six-seaters pushed the crowds onto the Bourke Street slope. Day tickets are considered expensive and customer care below average. On-mountain food takes a beating as cold and pre-packaged. The drive is its own subject: chains are compulsory for the final climb, and the Horse Hill car park and shuttle bus come up constantly.
