Myrkdalen lies thirty kilometres from Voss, deep in fjord Norway, and is known above all for snow: this corner of the country is one of the snowiest in Europe, and the skiing holds reliably into May with no snowmaking at all. The slopes are wide and open with six hundred metres of vertical, and two six-seat chairlifts do most of the work. The resort is young and compact: the hotel stands right by the piste, and everything else is within a walk.

What visitors say about the resort
Snow is what gets praised: Myrkdalen catches more of it than most Norwegian destinations and builds a very deep base up high. Grooming is good, and because much of the area sits above the treeline it is easy to find an untracked line after a storm. There is terrain for every level plus parks, and the hotel earns separate praise for being clean, well run and serving good food with friendly staff.
Living off a single hotel draws criticism: there is no village and no shops, prices are steep and apres-ski is essentially absent. The ski area is small and a confident skier exhausts it quickly. The nursery slope is tiny, so beginners still have to buy a full lift pass. The coastal position brings more wind, rain and fog than the drier inland resorts, and parts of the mountain still run on old drag lifts. At holidays and weekends people report long queues.
