Nevis Range lies on the flanks of Aonach Mòr near Fort William, reached by gondola - the only lift of its kind serving a British ski area. Across the glen stands Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the country. The terrain varies, with serious lines off the north-facing corrie, and there is no snowmaking - the skiing runs on natural snow and depends heavily on the winter. In summer the same mountain is known for its downhill mountain bike track, which hosts World Cup rounds.

Reviewers rate the gondola highly: it lifts you from the car park to the 650 m station in about twelve minutes, and capacity means the main lifts rarely back up. For strong skiers the draw is the Back Corries, described as the best lift-served off-piste in Britain, with empty bowls and real powder on the right day. The island views and decent rental gear are singled out too.
The weather and the snow take the blame. Wind shuts lifts, the gondola included, and reported depths of firm snow have turned out to be gravel, tussocks and blue ice. Narrow traverses between patches jam the moment somebody falls, and the handful of tows still turning collect long queues. The base is called run-down, apres-ski barely exists, public transport from Fort William is awkward, and the day pass strikes many as steep. The Braveheart chair to the Back Corries has been shut as unsafe.
