Stari Vrh lies in the hills above Škofja Loka, an hour from Ljubljana, and remains one of the few Slovenian areas visited almost entirely by locals. There are four lifts, the main one a six-seat chair, and the vertical is 637 metres, a good deal for so small a hill. The terrain covers every level, but there is no snowmaking, so the season is short, from mid-December into March. A day pass costs around thirty euros.

The lift is what people single out: a six-seat chair with heated seats, the only one of its kind in Slovenia, less than an hour from Ljubljana. Night skiing on the floodlit run is another favourite, as is the price, since the day pass is among the cheapest in the country. Guests write that the hill suits both learners and confident skiers, and they speak warmly of the helpful staff and the inn at the top station.
Unreliable snow is the recurring criticism. The elevations are low, cover depends heavily on snowmaking, and quality falls off noticeably towards spring. The area is small, and several days in a row is more than it can carry.
