Štrbské Pleso is the highest settlement in the High Tatras, standing by the glacial lake of the same name at 1,350 metres. The skiing is on the sunny southern flank of the Predné Solisko; the runs are nearly all easy or intermediate with full snowmaking. There is nothing black at all, but there is a park and a short freeride descent. Two ski jumps left over from the 1970 Nordic World Championships stand nearby, and cross-country trails circle the lake, drawing perhaps more people than the alpine skiing does.

What visitors say about the resort
Snow and comfort get the praise. This is Slovakia's highest resort, and its snow conditions are rated among the best in the country. The pistes are wide and even, and the forest shelters them from wind and flat light - the lifts keep running when exposed slopes elsewhere are unskiable. There are few people about and midweek there is no queueing. The new eight-seater gondola is seen as a real step forward and the ski buses run often and reliably.
Grooming and price take the flak. The chief complaint is the slopes: by midday holes, heaps of snow and moguls appear, with reviewers describing bumps all day long. At peak season only one run has stayed in decent shape, with everybody piling onto it. The area is small, an intermediate covers it in half a day, and several lifts are old. Prices are called steep even next to Austrian resorts, and the new gondola has been switched off before two.
