Tatranská Lomnica is the highest ski area in Slovakia: the top of the skiing sits at Lomnické sedlo at 2,190 metres, and the descent from there to the village stretches six and a half kilometres. The run off the saddle itself is short but very steep and reckoned among the hardest in the country. From here a cable car also climbs Lomnický štít, the second summit of the High Tatras, where an observatory stands; there are no pistes from it, and people ride up only for the view. Down at the village everything is laid out for children and beginners.
