Kasprowy Wierch is the highest ski area in Poland: two stages of cable car lift you from 1,014 metres to almost two thousand. That cable car is historic, built in 1936 in just seven months over the protests of Tatra conservationists. There is not a single easy run: both bowls, Gąsienicowa and Goryczkowa, are graded difficult. The area lies inside the Tatra National Park, so snowmaking is neither present nor possible, and the altitude stretches the season into early May.
